PPIs (Proton Pump Inhibitors)
May 13th, 2009
PPIs (Proton Pump Inhibitors) reduce stomach acid production and are used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), ulcers, esophagitis, and other conditions.
Proton pump inhibitors irreversibly inhibit the function of the gastric proton pumps (H+/K+ ATPase) on gastric parietal cells. This inhibition reduces gastric acidity by up to 99%, and allows healing of ulcers and esophagitis.
